A JACKET FOR LIFE
FREDRICK HORN, A GRAPHIC DESIGNER CAME TO ME WITH THE CONCEPT OF A 100% WATERPROOF TAPPED SEAM JACKET MADE ENTIRELY FROM SAINSBURY'S 'STURDY BAGS' TO CHALLENGE THE WASTE OF VALUABLE MATERIALS WHILST ENABLING THE USER TO 'LIVE WELL FOR LESS'.
TO BRING THIS WONDERFUL CONCEPT TO LIFE, FRED BRIEFED ME ON HIS VISON FOR THIS JACKET. I PATTERN CUT THE JACKET WITH AN ENLARGED SEAM ALLOWANCE, CLEAN SIMPLE PATCH POCKETS AND LARGE HOOD ADJUSTMENT, TO ALLOW FOR AN AT "HOME CONSTRUCTION". DUE TO THE RESTRICTIONS OF COVID-19 AND TIME LIMITATIONS, THE JACKET WAS TO BE MADE WITHOUT INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT. THE CONSTRUCTION METHOD USED TAPPED INTO MY SYLE OF 'PAPER SAMPLING' SEEN IN MY PREVIOUS WORK. STAPLES AND GLUE WERE USED TO CLOSE SEAMS AS IF ULTRA SONNIC WELDED OR STITCHED, THEN DUCT TAPPED TO SIMULATE WATERPROOF TAPING.,
A SERIES OF IMAGES THAT FRED VISIONED THE OUTWEAR MAY LOOK LIKE
A COUPLE BASIC CADS I DREW TO BRING THE CONCEPT TO LIFE, BEFORE PATTERN CUTTING.
